Introduction
Mithila Shakti Peeth is an important shakthi peeth where Devi Sati’s left shoulder (Vama Skandha) has fallen. Here Devi Sati is worshipped as Uma devior Mahadevi and Lord Bhairav as Mahodar.
Location
Mithila Shakti Peeth is situated in Mithila (near Janakpur station), Darbhanga on the border of Bihar, India- Nepal. The rail road connectivity to Janakpur which is the nearest railway station is good. The temple is well connected by bus from Darbhanga. The nearest airport is from Patna.
There is also a temple of Devi Janaki near the Shakthi Peeth.
The idols of goddess Uma Devi and Lord Mahodar are located in a temple on a mountain rock.
The Temple
The temple which represents a fort is a white colour structure having four minar type towers. There is also a colour fountain in front of the temple which is one of the tourist attractions. Mithila is the birth place of Sita Devi.
Festivals
Ram Navami is celebrated with great fervour. Janaki Navami on Vaishaka Shukla Navami (during May) is another festival celebrated with great pomp as Mithila is the birth place of Sita Devi.
Shivarathri, Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Holi are the other festivals celebrated in the temple.
Navaratri is celebrated during Ashwija masa (Sep- Oct month) and in April.
