INTRODUCTION
Whenever we recite the word Kasi, we would recite the name of Lord Kasiviswanathar and Ma Kasi Visalakshi also. There is a wonderful temple for Lord Vinayaga, who is popularly known as Sri Kasi Vinayagar Temple, and it is situated in Palayakaran Cross Street, Kodambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 600024. Those who are unable to visit Lord Viswanathar in Kasi Temple can visit and worship Lord Vinayaka in this temple, who is in the form of Lord Kasi Vinayaka.
As per ancient legend, when Lord Shiva and Parvati dwelled in Varanasi as Kasi Viswanathar and Visalakshi, they want to shower their grace to those, who are unable to visit the holy Varanasi. And hence as per the orders given by their divine parents, Lord Vinakaya has taken abode at Chennai, and blessing his devotees in a fantastic manner. It is also believed that those who visit Lord Kasi Vinayaka would get the blessings of Kasi Viswanathar and Ma Visalakshi also, and they would be blessed with a good health, wealth and would attain good fortunes in their lives.
This temple contains Lord Kasi Vinayaka as the main deity, and daily pujas are being conducted regularly. Devotees would throng into this temple during monthly Chaturthi festival days, and also during the annual Vinayaka Festival day. Issueless couples are advised to visit this Vinayaka Temple, in order to give birth to a noble child, like Lord Vinayaka. Many devotees have experienced lot of good changes in their lives after having darshan of Lord Kasi Vinayaka at this temple. Some staunch devotees also had the darshan of Kasi Vinayaka in their dreams, and got very much delighted.
Lord Vinayaka is popularly called as “Varasiddhi Vallabha Vinayaka”, “Kasi Vinayaka”, “Shakti Vinayaka”, “Siddhi Buddhi Vinayaka”, “Iswarya Vinayaka”, and by many more names. Vinayaka worship was there since ancient times, and after the decline in the popularity of the Vedic gods like Indra, Surya and Chandra, people in large numbers began to worship Lord Vinayaka along with Shiva, Shakti and Vishnu.
