Dassera was celebrated with fervor and devotion at the Sanatan Hindu Union Temple, Kisumu. Devotees thronged the temple to have the blessings of Devi Ma. A grand havan was conducted on Vijaya Dasami Day followed by Prasad which was partaken by more than 800 devotees. Dassera is the holy period devoted to the worship of Devi Shakti, the primordial feminine energy that sustains the cosmos. The Divine Mother is worshipped in her various manifestations as Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi. The Chandi Yagna which is a fire ritual is performed along with the recitation of the Chandi Path or the Devi Mahatmayam and invokes goddess Durga to remove negativity and bless her children with a long life of happiness and prosperity.
