INTRODUCTION
Dayananda Saraswati, also fondly called by his followers as Swami Dayananda Saraswati was a 19th century Saint, Philosopher, and the founder of the Arya Samaj. He was against the Hindu rituals and idol worship. He was also a great scholar, and he insisted his followers to observe strict celibacy and to worship the god in a formless manner.
Dayananda involved himself in social reform activities like giving equal rights for women, such as the right to get education similar to men, and he has done lot of social welfare activities for the poor people.
Dayananda Saraswati was born in the year 1824 in the present day Gujarat, and his birth name was Mool Shankar Tiwari. He has studied properly, but he raised questions to his father from the Shastras and Puranas.
He also questioned about the grand performance of ceremonies in the temples and also in the homes of the wealthy people, while the poor people struggles even for a day’s meal.
