GARIMELLA SATYANARAYANA
INTRODUCTION
Garimella Satyanarayana (1893–1952) was a poet and freedom fighter and he fought against the British Government and he expressed his feelings through his patriotic songs and writings, and due to that, several times, he was imprisoned by the British government.
Garimella Satyanarayana was born in a poor family in a village in Srikakulam district in the year 1893 to a pious Telugu family. His parents were ardent devotees of Lord Vishnu, and hence they have named their son as Satyanarayana.
Satyanarayana was very interested in writing patriotic songs and he himself used to sing songs. He also interested in spirituality and used to visit the temples. The Andhra people were inspired by his talents and he was considered as one of the great patriots. Though he was a poor person, he used to provide free food to the freedom fighters at his own cost. He was against caste discrimination and respected women and fought for the rights of the women.
He finished his graduation and for some time worked as a clerk in Andhra Pradesh. Later, he joined with Mahatma Gandhi and participated along with him in the Freedom fighters movement. Due to his participation in the movement, he lost all of his wealth and died in a state of poverty during the year 1952.
