The great Advaita Scholar, Sri Adishankara, had once visited the Kashi Viswanathar Temple, Varanasi, and had the darshan of Ma Annapurna Devi, and there he was directly fed food by Ma Annapurana herself from her own hands, and pleased with her motherly affection, Sri Adishankara began to sing a wonderful song in praise of the divine mother Annapurna, and the collection of those songs were came to be known as Gnanamirtham, and the wonderful lyrics are as follows:-
Hey, Ma Annapurneswari
you are the supreme Goddess of Kasi,
and through your kindness,
you makes the people happy,
and gives boons and provides food, cloth and shelter to all,
and also removes the miseries and sorrows from their life.

you are the holy goddess of Kasi,
and you are adorned with lot of precious jewels and you are dressed in rich golden colour silk sari, you holds the holy food pot,
and you contains attractive beauty,
Please give us food and all other basic necessities in order to sustain in our lives.

you are the beautiful goddess of Kasi,
who gives spiritual bliss to your devotees, and destroys our enemies,
and maintains DHARMA in this world,

you are not showing partiality to anyone in this world, and you are the goddess of kindness and compassion. You are also called as MA Amirthapurani, Amudeswari, Amudakalasini, Amudasurabi, Amudhini, Amirtharajeswari and as Amudhapurani, since the food provided by you tastes like that of the divine nectar (AMIRTHA).
