As per ancient puranas, Jaya and Vijaya are the two divine gatekeepers of Vaikunda, the divine abode of Lord Vishnu. Due to the curse, they were born in the earth as enemies of Lord Vishnu, and killed by their master Vishnu, and finally reached their place and serving the Lord again in the Vaikunda as divine gate keepers. Once, the child sages, Sanat Kumaras, sons of Lord Brahma, went to Vaikunda, to worship Lord Vishnu. But they were stopped from entering inside the Vaikunda by Jaya and Vijaya. Due to that they got angry with them and cursed them to take birth in the earth for several millions of years, and to be killed by Lord Vishnu during their births. And due to that, they were born as as Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu in Satya Yuga, Ravana and Kumbhakarna in Treta Yuga, and finally Shishupala and Dantavakra in Dvapara Yuga.
They were killed by Lord Varaha and Narasimha in the Krita yuga or Satya Yuga, and during the Treta Yuga, they were killed by Lord Rama, and finally at the previous Dwapara yuga, they were killed by Lord Krishna. And after their death in the dwapara yuga, they reached Vaikunda and continued doing their service of guarding the divine gates of Vaikunda. Their statues can be seen in Vishnu temples.
CONCLUSION
From this incident, we can learn that whenever we are doing an activity, we must think several times, and then only should reach a conclusion. Since Jaya and Vijaya, had thought the great child rishis as small children, they avoided them to make an entry into the Vaikunta, and also teased them due to their appearance. Due to that, they had faced lot of sufferings in their life, and it took several millions of years to regain to their original position. Hence before doing an activity, let us think twice or thrice and then start doing that work, after offering prayers to the god.
Let us worship the divine attendants of Lord Vishnu and be blessed.
