Introduction
It just cannot be said that it is a movement; it just includes a process of providing salvation to a being with the real Yog taught by the Living masters.
Radha Soami at river beas is a complete name in itself. Radha Soami Beas means lord of the soul’, and satsang describes a group that seeks truth for the reunion of Soul with God. Radha Soami is not a religion or movement but it is a science that deals with the unification of aatma(soul) with Parmatma(Almighty God).Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB, near River Beas) was founded by Baba Jaimal Singh Ji Maharaj in 1891 at a site called Dera.
Radha Soami Beas
Radha Swami (at River Beas) teachnig directly deals with the Path of the Masters and The Path of Love.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas “is a scientific method of … [God realization] within us, while we are still living in the here and now,” according to Great Satguru Maharaj Charan Singh Ji, the previous Living Master. It is “a school of practical spiritual training for God realization” and “does not consist of any rites, rituals, ceremonies, dogmas, priesthood, or church or temple worship.”
“Living in the world and discharging all our obligations towards wife, children, relatives, friends, and humanity, we have simply to turn our heart Godward. The saints’ teachings are very simple. They say that all the woe, misery, and anguish that is the lot of the human race are due to our sad separation from God. This world, which we love so much, is not our true home. “Unless [the soul] returns to its ancient original home, its sorrows and sufferings cannot and will not end. For this purpose, it need not seek anywhere outside of itself. Our body is the temple within which the Lord resides.
Radha Soami is a complete in its form ‘Radha’ means Soul and ‘Soami’ means Lord. Hence Radha soami can be translated into meaning merger of the Soul with the Lord. RSSB was founded way back in 1891 along the bank of river beas by its founder Baba Jaimal Singh Ji Radha soami philosophy is based on the teachings of various saints and gurus of all the religions. There is no difference of cast, creed or religion in any means, The Santmat includes all religions. The followers need to follow the right path of Ruhaniat as told by the great living master.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas has main center in Dera Baba Jaimal Singh near river Beas in Amritsar district. The present Guru of RSSB is Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon who was appointed by Maharaj Charan Singh in 1991.
The Radha soami Satsang Beas is non-profitable charitable organisation and an autonomous body which has no political links with any party or with other contemporary movements which use the name Radha Soami. The RSSB has its Centers all across the globe in 90 Countries.
The Radha Soami Satsang Beas has large number of followers from all parts of the world. The followers should follow the path of Santmat as told by the living master. They should restrained themselves from alcoholic substances and non vegetarian food. They should live a simple life by doing the Surat shabad Yog.
“The method of God-realization taught by all the saints, to whichever country or religion they have belonged, has always been the same and will ever be the same. It is the Lord’s own design and is as old as the creation itself. It consists of three parts: “First is simran, or the repetition of Lord’s holy names.
Beas Ashram
At the time when Babaji Maharaj established Dera Baba Jaimal Singh, he had built a small hut, about nine square feet in area. Today at the same place stands a beautiful colony, all-pervading calm and peace being the hallmark of the ashram.
Maharaj Sawan Singh Ji, succeeded Babaji Maharaj after the latter’s demise on 29th of December 1903. And he immediately got busy with the business of propagating the teachings of the Radhasoami movement, winning followers from as far as Europe, North America, Africa and Asia of course. His tenure saw immense progress in the fortunes of the Beas ashram. In His time, 1903-1948, the Dera made phenomenal progress in all its aspects. The Beas ashram grew both in fame and size, with its boundaries growing to several thousand square yards. Initially, on its properties were built a number of small rooms. This cluster later took shape of a huge colony of beautiful houses.
When he passed away at the age of 90 plus in 1948, his will was read out according to which his personal and private property was bequeathed to his family and the religious property, which he held as the spiritual master of the Dera was given to his successor as the head of the movement.
His successor Sardar Bahadur Jagat Singh Ji demise came soon after his guru’s on October 22, 1951. And his nomination to the post of master was Maharaj Charan Singh Ji.
Baba Jaimal Singh
Baba Jaimal Singh is known to the devotees with the name of Baba ji Maharaj.Baba Ji is the founder Of Dera,Radha Soami satsang Beas which is known by the name Dera Baba Jaimal Singh.
Baba Jaimal Singh ji was born in village Lath Ghuman near Batala, Distt. Gurdaspur, Punjab, India, in July 1839.Baba Ji was a devotee of Bhakt Naamdev ji and Baba ji started visiting him at the age of four.
At the age of 12-13 years he started studying Guru Granth Sahib at home, He came to realize that Guru Granth Sahib rejects the rituals like fasting, temple worship and bathing on pilgrimages etc; he understood that to find the God in inner self, one need to find a true Master, so he began to search for the master. After the journey of 2 years in northern India, he found the true master in Swami Shiv Dayal Ji of Agra.
From June 7, 1889 and Baba Ji started living in his village, and later built a hut near river Beas, with the passage of time the number of devotees increases and then baba ji built a Dera near river Beas. He found his successor in Baba Sawan Singh. He left his mortal body on Dec 29, 1903.
Baba Jaimal Singh Ji was one of the real Saints who over a period of about nineteen years came to be regarded as spiritual successors of Seth Shiv Dayal Singh Ji, the first leader of Radhasoami Community, often referred to as Sant Mat, the teachings of the Saints.
Activities at Beas Ashram
Radha Soami Dhyan
“Second is dhyan, or contemplation on the immortal form of the Master. This helps in keeping the attention fixed at that centre. “Third is bhajan, or listening to the Anahad Shabd or celestial music that is constantly reverberating within us. With the help of this divine melody, the soul ascends to higher regions and ultimately reaches the feet of the Lord.
A disciple, or satsangi, practices lacto-vegetarianism, abstains from drugs and alcohol, upholds prescribed high moral values, and works for a living (no renunciation of the world). Sant Mat initiations are personal and the spiritual experiences one has during meditation are not to be shared with others as this asserts the ego, thus hindering spiritual progress. Significantly, the Master and Dera are self-supporting and money is never charged for any Sant Mat related activities. A true living Master never accepts any money from his disciples. This is one sign of a true saint.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas, a Spiritual Centre in Northern India Beas (Punjab), their teachings and philosophies are really amazing and based on the scientific methods rather than just only belief or superstitions. A human being can attain true salvation by just following their paths, which basically includes, leading a moral life and practicing the “Paanch Naam”. Radha Soami is not a myth or a way adopted from any superstitions but it’s a scientific approach for the true Seekers of truth and salvation.
Perfect Balance, Lightness of Being
We have responsibility to ourselves. We have to take good care of ourselves. No one else will walk our path for us. We have to walk it ourselves. The spiritual teacher will help us, but we must put in the effort. We can rely on the five pillars of spirituality to give us a strong foundation from which we can build our spiritual life. When we make the resolution to become better human beings, in that very moment we begin to develop our spiritual nature, and, with it, what is best in us. If we are to grow, we have to begin by first bringing the values of spirituality into our material world. We need to step out of the small circle to which we have confined ourselves and to expand our horizon of understanding and action. Developing peace of mind and stability by relying on the five pillars of spirituality, we will relish the tension-free, stable and joyful state of being that will ensue. Cultivating our spiritual nature and relishing it, our mind will seek to retain this new, more enjoyable way of being and will develop the conviction and determination to obtain, as often as possible, the bliss it has tested. The more our spiritual nature predominates, the more content and free we become.
When we start to walk on the spiritual path, the downward tendencies of the mind will be gradually destroyed. If we tread the path with conviction, our attitude to life will change and we will become spiritually strong. The upward tendencies of our mind will then be free to bring out all that is best in us.
When we have established ourselves on the way of the saints, we begin to act with balance and equanimity, while within we enjoy the most wonderful peace, joy and lightness of being. Then God-realization becomes a real possibility.
Meditation
Real Spiritual growth can be achieved only through the practice of meditation. There are many ways to meditate, and each method varies in its results, purposes and objectives.
