SANKALPA SEVA
INTRODUCTION
Sankalpa Seva is a type of Seva observed by the devotees of Guru Raghavendra. There are various ways to please the Gurus and the gods. One such way to please our holy guru Raghavendra, and to remove the difficulties in our life, is by the way of doing Sankalpa Seva. The Sankalpa Seva can be done for even 1 day.
But doing Sankalpa Seva for a minimum period of 3 days would make our prayers to get easily answered by our Guru. During the time of performance of Sankalpa Seva, we should observe proper fasting, and we can take some tiffin items in the morning, without onion and garlic, and thereafter we must have to take food items like butter milk, fruit and fruit juices only. During these days, we can read the life history of Guru Raghavendra, Vishnu Purana, Bhagavatham and Bhagavat Gita, and also other holy Hindu texts. We should fill up our mind with full of spiritual thoughts on Guru Raghavendra, and must sleep only in the floor. Sankalpa Seva can be observed in Mantralayam, the abode of Guru Raghavendra, in the branches of Raghavendra Mutts, and also in our homes, by placing his picture in our puja room, and by chanting his stotra or just by reciting the simple mantra, “OM SRI RAGHAVENDRAYA NAMAHA”.
Before 25 years, I have also performed Sankalpa Seva in my home for three days. During that time, I used to visit Raghavendra Temple at Ayanavaram, and circumambulated the temple for 24 times. Due to that, I have got good results in my life, and somehow I am able to manage my life with the divine blessings of Guru Raghavendra.
As per ancient saying, we would be able to approach the great almighty, only through our spiritual guru. Among the various spiritual gurus in Hinduism, Guru Raghavendra is considered as a “GEM”, and he is reducing the sins of the devotees by worshipping Lord Rama continuously for a few hundred years at his Samadhi Shrine situated at Mantralayam. Raghavendra is considered to be the divine wish fulfilling cow, Ma Kamadhenu, and the wish fulfilling tree, the great Kalpavriksha.
The present pontiff of Guru Raghavendra Mutt, Sri Subudhendra teertha, asks the devotees to visit and worship Guru Raghavendra Swamigal at Mantralayam, in order to get their wishes fulfilled, and to find an easy way to get their problems solved.
