RISHI SAUBHARI
INTRODUCTION
Saubhari was an ancient rishi and he is believed to be the son of Rishi Kanwa, who brought up Shakunthala at his Ashram.
Once when Saubhari Rishi was doing meditation inside the Holy River Yamuna, he has seen the sexual union of some fishes. Due to that, he also wanted to enjoy physical pleasures with his consort, and hence he went to the palace of the Mathura King, Mandhata, and asked him to marry one of his daughters to him. Though the king was initially reluctant to marry his daughter to the great sage Saubhari, but after repeated request made by the sage, he got pity with him, and asked him to choose one of his fifty daughters.
The great rishi Saubhari transformed himself into a handsome man through his spiritual powers, and as a result, all of the fifty daughters of the king began to love him so much, and as per their request, the king had married all of his fifty daughters to Rishi Saubhari.
Rishi Saubhari through his spiritual powers, constructed a palace, and also created several servants and maids to serve him and his consorts. He enjoyed his life in the palace with his consorts, and he had several children. After living a comfortable life for many years, the Rishi had lost interest in leading a luxurious life style, and due to that, he took his consorts and children to a forest, performed severe penance on Lord Vishnu, and after several years, all of them have attained salvation due to the grace of Lord Vishnu.
From the life history of Saubhari Rishi, we can understand that even if we enjoy a rich life style for many years, in course of time, we would become bored with that, and we would realize the importance of worshipping the almighty, in order to attain salvation after our death.
