INTRODUCTION
Serman Swamigal was born in a village in Thoothukudi District in the year 1880, into a pious Hindu Nadar family. His birth name was Arunachalam. He was born through the blessings of Lord Shiva.
He has studied his basic education in a school nearby his village. Even, when he was a playful little boy, he spent his time towards worshipping Lord Shiva in the temples. Due to his good knowledge, British government has appointed him as a tax collector.
After some time, he was disinterested in doing his job, and left the job and concentrated his attention on spirituality.
Very soon the people in his village were realized that he has got divine powers. He relieved the people from their physical and mental diseases and had given spiritual lectures among the people, and used to tell the stories of the nayanmar saints in a wonderful manner to his devotees. He also used to sing songs of Lord Shiva in the Shiva temples. He had done many welfare activities to the people like providing food, clothing and shelter to the poor people, and also educated the poor boys and girls, and conducted marriages for poor girls at his own cost. Due to that, he was very much loved by the people. After serving the god and the people he left his physical body in the year 1908.
