Ancient kings those who use golden plates for eating food, would also eat their food in the plantain leaves during the time of auspicious festivals. In the life history of Nayanmar Saints, the significance of plantain leaves is mentioned, and most of the Nayanmars used to have their food only in the plantain leaves after performing puja to Lord Shiva.
Lot of health benefits are also associated with the plantain leaves, and those who used to have their food in the plantain leaves regularly would get rid from heat related diseases and also the eaten food would be digested easily and quickly. Since plantain leaves are considered as sacred, those who perform rituals for their ancestors must have to compulsorily eat their food only in the plantain leaves. In most of the villages in India, we can see lot of plantain trees which would be standing in a fully grown shape, and in most of the Hindu marriage functions, food would be served only in the plantain leaves.
After finishing our food in the plantain leaves, most of the people would offer it to the cows, in order to eat the leaves. But actually we must have to wash it completely using the water, and then only we must have to offer it to the holy cows, since offering the leaves to the cows with the left overs of the eaten food particles is considered as a sinful activity, since cows are considered as the incarnations of Ma Lakshmi Devi.
By eating our food in the plantain leaves, we would get the full satisfaction of consuming the food in a hygienic manner, and we would also develop the habit of eating our food only in the plantain leaves, and all of our Doshams also would be reduced to a certain extent, since plantain trees are considered as very sacred trees.
