Sri Paramasivanadimai Swamigal (14th century AD) was a Shaivite saint, who lived during the period of the great Shaivite Saint, Sri Arunagiriyar. Before becoming a saint, Sri Paramasivanadimai Swamigal was a king who ruled some portion of the present day Thirunelveli District in a well versed manner. His birth name was Sundarashiva.
Once while a great Siddhar was doing meditation near the Nellaiyappar Temple, Thirunelveli, some thieves put the ornaments stolen by them, on the neck of the Siddhar, and ran away from that place. Mistakenly, the soldiers considered the Siddhar Saint as the thief, and they handed over him before the king Sundarashiva. Without properly inquiring about the incident, the King Sundarashiva had ordered the soldiers to hang the Siddhar. While the soldiers tried to hang the Siddhar, a big five headed snake appeared before them, and it protected the Siddhar Saint by staying on his back, and it also enlarged its five heads like an umbrella in order to provide shadow to him. Due to this miraculous incident, the soldiers realized their mistake, and they took him in front of their king Sundarashiva. After knowing about the holiness of the Siddhar Saint, the king had crowned his son, and become a disciple of the Siddhar and from then onwards the King has attained sainthood, and he came to be known as Sri Paramasivanadimai Swamigal, and he went along with his Guru.
Both of them were stayed in the Mahalingeswara Swamy Shiva Temple at Thiruvidaimarudhur, and they lived a simple and a saintly life, by praying and doing meditation on Lord Shiva, and they used to eat food only by taking alms. During their stay at the temple, both of them have done lot of miracles on the lives of the devotees. They healed the diseases of the devotees, and inculcated the Shiva Bhakti on their minds, and made them to concentrate their attention on Lord Shiva.
Sri Paramasivanadimai Swamigal was excellent in penning devotional poems on Lord Shiva, and he has sung many songs in praise of Shiva in the Thiruvidaimarudhur Mahalingeswara Swamy Temple. Due to his high spiritual powers, he gave salvation to some of his disciples, as per their request. He used to burn the bad karmas of the devotees, by touching them on their heads, and through his noble acts, even the bad people had become good and they had attained salvation.
Some of the excellent songs sung by Sri Paramasivanadimai Swamigal are as follows:-
Nothing we have brought during the time of our birth, and nothing we are going to take during the time of our death, and, then, in between out short life, why we have to do bad things in our life, in order to earn lot of bad karmas. Oh my Dear people, Pease Be good, Do Good, and Think Good, in order to fetch lot of good karmas during our shorter life term.
Once we die all of our friends and relatives would cry only for some time, and after some time, they would continue in doing their routine works. Whatever we earn in the world during our life time, would not come along with us. Our wealth would be used only by our relatives after our death. Hence instead of earning more and more monetary wealth which is highly perishable in nature, try to earn lot of spiritual wealth, since it would surely come along with us, even after our death!
Think, Think, Think, always think about our Lord Shiva, since he is the one who is capable to burn our sins into ashes, and he is the one, who would even grant salvation to us.
