Tenali Rama (15th century AD) was a poet in the court of the king Sri Krishnadevaraya. His birth name was Garlapati Ramakrishna. He was well known for his humorous activities. He was one among the other poets, at the court the Vijayanagara emperor, Sri Krishnadevaraya.
LIFE
Tenali Rama was born in a Brahmin family, in a village at Andhra Pradesh. His father served as a priest in the Ramalingesvara Swami temple in Andhra Pradesh.
Above all, After his father’s death, he lived in his uncle’s town, tenali, and from then onwards, he is called as Tenali Rama.
In addition, Without formal schooling, he became a great scholar, due to his devotion to goddess Kali and with her grace, he becomes a great poet in the court of King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara.
He was also known as a Special Advisor to Sri Krishnadevaraya.
After the king’s death, he returned to tenali, and after some time he died from a snakebite.
IMPORTANCE
Tenalirama, through his comic acts, made the king, and the region’s people to forget about their problems, and to get some relaxation. He was a clever and a nobleman, who never insulted others. Tenalirama has safeguarded the king from his enemies by his wisdom. He acted as a friend, philosopher and a guide to the king.
