TRIKKAKARA TEMPLE

INTRODUCTION

Trikkakara is one of the famous temples of Lord Vamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is situated in Trikkakara, Kochi in Kerala. Onam festival is grandly celebrated at this temple during August – September for about a week. The temple is an ancient temple, and this temple is believed to have been built before several lakhs of years.

During the Onam festival, grand feast is served to all the devotees at the temple premises. Onam festival is celebrated by the devotees belonging to other religions also, since they believe the legend associated with the festival, and they also have faith with Lord Vamana and the great demon King Mahabali, grandson of Prahalada. And most of the Malayalee people used to put grand Kolams in front of their houses during the Onam festival, in order to welcome the great king Mahabali to their homes. Apart from Onam festival, festivals like Vishu, Diwali, Makar Sankranti, Navrathri and Saraswati Puja are also celebrated in a nice manner at this temple.

The temple main deity is Lord Vamana, and inside the main shrine, the idol                       of Mahabali is also found, who is in the form of worshipful posture, and it is believed that   Lord Parashurama is said to have constructed the temple. The temple is controlled by the Travancore Devaswom Board.

Along with the main deity, deities like Bhagavati, Sastha, Gopalakrishna and Naga Devata are also found in the temple.  There is a Shiva temple situated near this temple, and the temple consists of deities such as Shiva, Ganesha, Karthikeya and Durga.

According to the legend, after the construction of this ancient temple, Prahalada and Mahabali had come out from the underworld, and visited this holy temple, and had the divine vision of Lord Vamana. By visiting this holy temple, we would get the blessings of Lord Vamana, Prahalada and Mahabali, and due to that, we would get mental peacefulness and boldness, and we would have a blessed life.
