ANCIENT TEMPLE INSCRIPTIONS
INTRODUCTION
Ancient temple inscriptions are found in most of the ancient temple walls, and also the inscriptions would be carved out in stones also. And they would give the correct picture about the details of the temple history like the name of the builder, construction date and the period of completion etc. Generally ancient temples were built by the Kings and big landlords. Apart from the details of temple construction, details about the deities and the great sages and saints are also are available in the temple inscriptions.
Many historians and researchers have researched about the details of inscriptions and brought many good things to us, like the details of the deities, names of the famous kings, details about the sculptors and their dedicated work in installing the deities etc.
In some of the following temples in Karnataka, lot of stone inscriptions were found, and it had thrown a light to us, about knowing the past details of the temples.
- Chokkanathaswamy Temple, Domlur
- Someshwara Temple, Madivala
- Dharmeshwara Temple, Kondarahalli, Hoskote
- Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple, Nandi
- Kolaramma Temple, Kolar
- Mukthi Natheshwara Temple, Binnamangala
- Someshwara Temple, Ulsoor
Some temple inscriptions would be written in different ancient languages and reading that would be very difficult even by the archaeological department scholars and historians. But according to me, if we are really interested to know about the inscriptions details, the great almighty would definitely reveal the details to us through his divine grace. If we have sincere bhakti on god, he would help us to understand the inscriptions, even if it is written in a different and in unknown languages.
