DHARMA AND ADHARMA
INTRODUCTION
Dharma contains different meanings in different religions. In Hinduism, dharma means the right way of living, choosing the spiritual path and lives according to the principles, philosophies and teachings of the great saints. Providing food to the living beings and doing help to others and removing the tears of the sufferers is also considered as an act of Dharma.
Adharma is the opposite term of dharma. Doing wrongful acts and following the unrighteousness path, causing harm to others and doing lot of sinful activities is considered as Adharma.
According to Bhagavat Gita, Lord Krishna says, “Whoever follows the path of Dharma, are considered as my best devotees, and those who follows the Adharma path, are not treated as my devotees, though they worships me sincerely”.
By taking our holy epics as an example, in case of Ramayana, Lord Rama followed the path of Dharma throughout his life, and that’s why he prosperously ruled his kingdom for eleven thousand years, whereas, Ravana had followed the Adharma path, and that’s why he was killed by Lord Rama, and he was unable to rule his kingdom for a long period of time.
In case of Mahabharata, the Pandavas have adopted the path of Dharma, and King Yudhistra itself is an incarnation of Dharma Deva. Whereas the Kauravas lead by Duryodana had followed an Adharma path, and hence they were killed by the Pandavas during the Kurukshetra war.
Hiranyakasipu was killed by Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, since he followed the Adharma path, whereas his son Prahalada had lived as per the principles of Dharma and gave a golden rule to his people, and as a result he was blessed by Lord Narasimha and got lot of boons from him. Kamsa followed the path of Adharma, and due to that, he was killed by the Lord Krishna, who is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, and he is also the chief of Dharma.
In this Kaliyuga, day by day, Adharma is spreading everywhere in the world, and as a result, the people are suffering from strange diseases and from unknown fear. Some people are commenting that there is no god at all, and they are criticising mainly our Hindu Religion. Most of the non-believers of god are not criticising other religions, but their aim is to criticise our Hindu religion only.
They didn’t realize how much sins they are committing by way of insulting the sentiments, customs and beliefs of a particular religion. At present, they may live happily and peacefully, but during their last days, they have to suffer for their bad acts and they would suffer in their subsequent births also. Some non-believers of god are cutting the sacred threads of the Brahmins and by doing that, they are getting very much happiness. But that happiness would last for them only temporarily, since they cannot escape from the punishment of the god. Hence let us always do good activities in our life, follow the principles of dharma and be blessed.
