INTRODUCTION
Ma Nithya Sumangali Mariamman is the one, who gives Mangalya Strength (Longevity to the husbands). In Ma Shakti worship, she was the one who is the divine physician, who protects the universe from sickness, especially she removes the diseases of the devotees like small pox, measles, chicken pox, jaundice and malaria, and hence she was affectionately called by her devotees as “Ma Maha Mariamman”( The great Mother goddess Mariamman). Ma Mariamman worship is prevalent since ancient times, especially by the Tamils.
Mariamman is a village deity who protects the people from heat related diseases. As per legend, once there lived a great king Valvil Ori, who was also a noble minded philanthropist, and he ruled the Koli Malai kingdom as his capital. During that time, once in a farmer’s land, his plough was struck at a particular place, and hence when he began to dig it, he was able to see an idol of Ma Mahamariamman with a seat(Peetam), and at that time, he also heard a divine voice from the sky, which has told to him, to build a temple for the holy mother Mahamariamman, and as per the divine orders, in that place itself, the farmer and the village people had first initially constructed a small hut temple.
But after some time, when the great King Valvil Ori had fallen sick, his consort queen was very much worried, and hence she came forward to construct a nice temple for Amman, and after the completion of the temple, King Valvil Ori was completely recovered from his sickness, and since the holy mother Mariamman has brought back the life of the king, this temple Amman is popularly worshipped as MA NITHYA SUMANANAGALI MARIAMMAN. The address of the temple is: F55M+MGV, Thiruchengode – Rasipuram Rd, Rasipuram (Near Rasipuram Old Bus Stand), Tamil Nadu 637408.
Since Ma Shakti Devi would permanently remain as a Nithya Sumangali (The divine goddess would never loses her husband, since Lord Shiva would remain as an immortal for ever), hence, this temple Amman is known as MA NITHYA SUMANANAGALI SHAKTI MAHAMARIAMMAN TEMPLE.
During the Tamil month of Aippasi, a grand festival event would also take place which would last for 15 consecutive days, and during those days, the Utsava Idol of Amman would be taken out for procession, and it would be travelled to the nearby streets, for the darshan of the devotees, who live in the nearby area.
During the festival event, activities like Theemidi(Fire Walk), Spear piercing, Chariot procession, Koozh and Pongal offering would also takes place. Curd rice would be offered as Prasad to the devotees, and by consuming it, we would get the divine grace of Amman, and issueless couples would also give birth to noble children. The temple darshan timings are from 6 am to 1 pm and again from 5pm to 8 pm.
Nowadays apart from Sumangalis, widows are also given proper respect in the society, and they are also shining well in their respective fields, due to the grace of Ma Shakti Devi. Hence, let us visit this wonderful Amman Temple as per our convenience and let us be blessed.
