KING NAHUSHA

INTRODUCTION
Nahusha was a king of the Chandra dynasty and he was the son of King Ayu, and Queen Viraja. Nahusha was born due to the blessings of Lord Dattatreya, and he was the consort of Mata Ashokasundari, who is popularly known as Bala Tripura Sundari, and she is the daughter of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, and their son Yayati has become the king after his father, Nahusha.
Once Mata Parvati, wanted to have a daughter, and due to that, she requested the divine Kalpavriksha tree to grant a daughter to her. On hearing the words of the great goddess, immediately the Kalpavriksha had fulfilled her wish, and as result, a charming young girl, who was named as Ashokasundari was appeared in front of her. After staying with Shiva, Parvati, Ganesa and Muruga for a few years, Parvati asked Ashoksundari to marry with Nahusha.
Nahusha was mentioned in the Mahabharata and in other holy texts. He looks very handsome, and contains charming face. He was a disciple of sage Vasishta, and he learned the Vedic subjects from him, and also he was mastered in all kinds of arts.
After becoming a king, he has done Yagnas and meditation, and due to that, he gained lot of spiritual powers, and as a result, he fought with Lord Indra, defeated him, and he occupied the postition of Lord Indra in the Indra Loka. In course of time, since Nahusha has enjoyed lot of pleasures in the Swarka Loka, once he asked some great Rishis to lift his palanquin (PALLAKU). Due to that, the great sage Agastya, has got angry, and cursed him to become a serpent.
Nahusha had relieved from his curse, and went to the divine world, when he was touched by the great Pandava and the Dharmaraja Yudhishthira with his lotus hands. It is believed that he still resides in the heaven, and occupies the position next to Lord Indra. His consort Mata Ashoka Sundari, had become a powerful goddess, and she merged with her mother Mata Parvati, and now she is famously called as “BALA TRIPURA SUNDARI”, and she is worshipped by her devotees throughout India, and she fulfils the wishes of her devotees and grants boons to them, and some temples are also dedicated to her in India.
