LORD GURUVAYURAPPAN
INTRODUCTION
Guruvayurappan is the child form of Lord Krishna, and he is worshipped mainly in Kerala. He is the main deity of Guruvayur temple, which is situated in Kerala. The deity appears as the infant form of Lord Krishna. The temple is located in Guruvayur, Thrissur district, Kerala, and this temple is considered as a very sacred temple.
Since Deva Guru Brahaspati and Vayu Deva had installed the Krishna’s deity, the deity is called as Guruvayurappan.
The idol of Guruvayurappan was worshipped by Vasudeva and Devaki, the parents of Krishna, and later it was worshipped by Lord Krishna himself. The deity is in the standing posture with four arms, carrying the conch, the Chakra, the mace and the lotus.
At the beginning of Kali Yuga, the great King Janamejaya worshipped Lord Krishna in Guruvayur, and he got relieved from leprosy.
During the first Krita Yuga, due to the request of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu gave an idol of child Krishna to Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma worshipped the idol and passed it on to his mind born sons, and finally it was passed on to Lord Krishna himself, and Krishna built a temple for the idol and worshipped it sincerely. At the end of the Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna gave the idol to his friend Sri Uddhava and asked him to hand over the idol to Brihaspati, the Guru of Devas, and as per the orders of Lord Krishna, Uddhava handed over the idol to Brihaspati.
Brihaspati met Vayu and both of them took the idol on their hands, and reached the present day Kerala. Their they got the divine vision of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati in a beautiful forest, and after getting the blessings from the divine couple, Guru and Vayu had decided to install the idol in that place.
Brihaspati then called Vishwakarma, the divine architect and asked him to construct a beautiful temple. Vishwakarma constructed the holy temple with full of beauty. Then Vishwakarma, Brihaspati and Vayu installed the idol after performing all the required rituals. All the divine gods assembled there and performed puja to Lord Guruvayurappan. Nearby Guruvayur temple, there is a famous temple for Lord Shiva which is known as Mammiyur Maheswaran Temple. Those who come for Guruvayur to worship Lord Guruvayurappan, must have to necessarily visit and worship Lord Shiva at Mammiyur.
Lord Guruvayurappan had given his divine vision to the great saints like Sri Vilwamangalam Swamigal, King Manaveda, Nenmini Unni, Poonthanam, Pattathiri and Mata Kuruvammal.
As per the legend, it is believed that Pithamaga Bhishmar is visiting the temple of Guruvayur on a daily basis and worshipping him.
Those who worship Lord Guruvayurappan at the Guruvayur Temple would get relieved from their diseases and from their problems, and they would get all kinds of prosperities in this earth. And for the sincere devotees, Guruvayurappan would grant even salvation to them.
