INTRODUCTION
Mahendranath Gupta (1854–1932) was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna and a great saint. He wrote the the life history of Ramakrishna in a simplified manner in English which is known as Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita, and it is also known as “The Divine messenger – Sri Ramakrishna”. He was the guru of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, a famous yogi and spiritual master. His disciple Yogananda had considered him as his divine guru, and showed great respect to him.
Mahendranath was born in a pious Hindu family in Kolkata in the year 1854. At his younger age, he has lost his mother, and become very much worried, and concentrated his attention on going to temples and doing meditation. After finishing his education, he was married to a noble girl. He worked as a school teacher, and after some time, he has started a school on his own in Kolkata and invoked the “SHIVA BHAKTI SPIRIT” in the minds of the boys and girls. Sri Gupta would regularly visit the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple and worshipped the Divine Mother Kali, and through that, he got great spiritual power and energy. He was an ardent disciple of Ramakrishna and paid great respects to Bhagavan Ramakrishna and Mata Sarada Devi. He died in the year 1932, and attained MUKTI.
