Malayala Swamy (1885–1962) was a great saint and a social reformer. He was against caste discrimination, and according to him, that the Vedas and the Holy Scriptures must be studied by all class of people. He also fought for the welfare of women’s rights. He founded the Sri Vyasashrama in Yerpedu, Andhra Pradesh. His disciple Sri Vidya Prakasananda Swamy, established Sri Sukabrahmashrama at Srikalahasti.
Malayala Swamy travelled throughout Andhra Pradesh, and conducted lectures on Sanatana Dharma and about the importance of Hinduism. He also renovated various temples and ashrams, provided food to the poor people, and encouraged their children to go for higher studies, and also built small huts and houses for the poor people through the donations which he received from the rich people. He had done a dedicated service to the god and to the people.
LIFE
He was born to a pious Hindu family in a village at Guruvayur, Kerala. His birth name is Velappa. He was well versed in Hindu texts and travelled to many ancient holy shrines and worshipped the gods and goddesses with much enthusiasm and happiness. He went to Tirumala and did meditation in the hills. After doing meditation for several years, he started an ashram at Yerpedu in the year 1929 in the name of Sage Vyasa. Since he belonged to Kerala Malayam speaking community, he was fondly called by the people as “MALAYALASWAMI”.

Malayalaswami started schools, old age homes, hospitals, and orphanages for the poor children with free boarding and lodging facilities.
He has done lot of social welfare activities and succeeded in his task. He conducted many religious lectures among the people. He spread the bhakti spirit among the people, and created confidence in their minds by asking them to regularly worship the god by chanting his names and to perform yoga and meditation on a regular basis.
