NAGA DOSHAM
INTRODUCTION
Naga dosham also known as Sarpa dosha and Kala Sarpa Dosha occurs in the horoscope of a person when he has killed or caused harm to serpents in his previous births. Snakes are to be considered as respectful worshipful deities and they contain great powers, and the details about them are mentioned in our holy texts.
We can see snakes dwelling in the body of Lord Shiva, Vinayaka and it acts as a divine bed for Lord Vishnu. In order to get rid from the Naga Dosham, we must have to do Naga Shanti Homams in the temples like Kukke Subramanya Temple, Ananda Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Kalahasteeswara Swamy Temple, Thirunageswaram Temple and Nagarcoil Temple, and if are unable to visit these temples, we can perform Homams in other temples, and also in Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, Mantralayam, since in that holy Mutt, we can find lot of shrines of Naga Devata.
Even if we destroy anthills or if we cause harm to reptiles like lizards, we would have to suffer from Naga Dosham. Rahu and Ketu are the two powerful snake deities who are also forms part of the Navagrahas. Worshipping them sincerely also would reduce the severity of the Naga Dosham, since these two snakes are considered as supreme snake deities. There is a famous snake temple situated at Kerala, and it is known as Mannarsala Nagaraja Temple. In that temple, we can find lot of devotees performing pujas and Homams to Nagaraja in order to get rid from their Naga Dosham.
We can also offer milk, and if possible eggs also, to the snake burrows regularly, in order to show our utmost devotion on the snake deities. By doing that, the head of the snakes, Lord Adisesha would be very much pleased with our act, and he would relieve us from the Naga Dosham. We can also worship Ma Manasa Devi by chanting her Mantras, who is considered as the mother of snakes, by visiting her temples situated in India, and she is also considered to be an aspect of Ma Shakti Devi.
Whatever remedial measures we may take, but it all depends on our fate. No one can change the laid down fate and even by the god himself. But if we sincerely pray to Lord Krishna, in order to reduce the severity of our doshams, definitely, the great Lord Krishna would reduce our doshams at least to certain extent, since he has controlled and danced on the head of the powerful serpent Kaliya during the previous Dwapara Yuga.
