SRI GURU CHARITRA

INTRODUCTION

Sri Guru Charitra is a holy text, which was written based on the speech given by Sri Narasimha Saraswati, a 15^th century Guru, and an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. This wonderful text was written by the great scholar Sri Saraswati Gangadhar, who was one of the disciples of Sri Narasimha Saraswati Swamigal.

The book was written in Marathi Language. The book contains the spiritual discussion between Sri Narasimha Saraswati and his disciple. It deals with spiritual knowledge, work, and about Divinity. Since this book is based on the teachings of the Holy Guru Narasimha Saraswati, it is named as Sri Guru Charitra.

The book is believed to have been written in a village in Karnataka. After the completion of this sacred text, his guru Narasimha Saraswati had appreciated him for his mastery in penning wonderful texts.

THE SACRED SPEECH OF SRI NARASIMHA SARASWATI DELIVERED TO HIS DISCIPLE

I have learnt great patience from the earth goddess, Ma Bhudevi, since the great divine mother, bears the natural calamities like earth quakes and storms, and she also was highly disturbed by the arrogant nature of the bad people in the earth.

I have learnt lot of patience from the spiders, since even though they are disturbed by the humans still they are keep on building their web again and again.

I have learnt lot of patience from the dogs, since even though they have been hurt by their masters, still they act honestly and also they serve them as faithful servants.

I have learnt lot of patience from the bees, since though the humans destroys their nest, in order to taste the honey, yet, they keep on building their nest again and again.

I have learnt lot of patience from the sun, since it gives light to everyone, without seeing their nature.

I have learnt great bhakti from the Bhagavathas like Prahalada, Narada and Dhruva, since though they have been tested by the almighty, yet, they kept sincere faith on him, without losing their patience.

I have learnt good character from the sages, since they are doing meditation in a selfless manner, without seeking anything from the god for their own goodness.

I have learnt great boldness from the kings, since though they face lot of war related challenges, yet they are actively participating on it without getting any fear on their mind.

I have learnt lot of activeness from the tiny ants, since though they are tiny in appearance, yet they are busily doing their work, like busily collecting small food particles for consuming it.

I have learnt great patience, confidence and will power from King Mahabali, since, though he was pushed by Lord Vamana to the Sutala Loka, yet, he didn’t get angry with the almighty, but, still he is waiting for his turn to become Indra in the next Yuga.

I have learnt lot of bravery from the king of animals, the lion, since it even attacks a huge elephant in order to make it as its prey.

I have learnt lot of unity from the crows, since during the time of eating, crows would eat food together by showing their unity.

I have learnt lot of purity from the holy cows, since they used to frequently raise the noise, “AMMA”, and it signifies calling the holy mother, “MA SHAKTI DEVI”.
