SWAMI UMANAND SARASWATI
INTRODUCTION
SWAMI UMANAND SARASWATI was born in the year 1916 in a village in Nagpur, and she was interested in carrying out spiritual activities from her young age itself, and used to converse about devotional matters with her neighbours, friends and relatives. Her spiritual journey had fetched lot of followers, and she was popularly known as “Ma” amongst the devotees. Her birth name was Kusumeshwari.
During the year 1961, Mata Uma studied Vedanta and other holy scriptures from Swami Chinmayananda, and she also met Gurudev Muktanand Baba of Ganeshpuri and performed meditation at his ashram. Gurudev Muktanand Baba had given Sanyasa and guided Mata Uma on the spiritual path. She also learned yoga, and guided many students in Yoga and meditation and also awakened the Kundalini Shakti to the spiritual seekers.
Mata Saraswati started the spiritual work in Shree Gurudev Dhyan Mandir Trust. Mataji also published spiritual books, and invoked the bhakti spirit among the people. Mataji travelled throughout India, and guided many people and taught the greatness of yoga, meditation and the divine scriptures, and she gave discourses on Guru-Bhakti-Yoga.
Mataji insisted her devotees to study Shri Jnaneshwari, written by the great child saint Sri Dyaneshwar, an AMSHA of Lord Vishnu, and also explained the excerpts from the famous texts Shri Gurucharitra Bodheshwari and Shri Gurugeeta Artheshwari to her devotes in a precise manner.
Mataji was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, and realized the presence of Lord Shiva everywhere in the world, and she has become a Mahayogi.
Mahayogi Swami Umanand Saraswati attained Mahasamadhi in the year 1985, and the Samadhi Mandir was built at Nashik in Maharashtra, and her statue is installed.
