A group called Karibu Kenya Modiji is preparing to stage a historic event on July 10 to welcome the Prime Minister of India Shree Narendra Modi.
The convener of the organising committee, Dr Manu Chandaria, said at the first meeting that the PM’s visit is historic because it gives credence to the image of Kenyan Indians as builders of this nation. He said that the community, which is in its fifth generation, has played a significant role in Kenya’s development, yet sections of the indigenous population are not aware of our role in the development of the nation.
Kenyan Indians have been urged to register online to secure entry passes to the venue and be part of this welcome party.
The registration portal is www.kenyawelcomesmodi.org. The head of the Karibu Kenya Modiji committee Dr. Ramjibhai Patel expects to have more than 25,000 members from the East African regions.
In light of this, auditions for a history-making cultural exposition were held in Nairobi recently. Cultural dance groups, singers and acrobats have presented creative Indo-Kenyan items for consideration to be part of celebrations to welcome Shree Modi.
Meanwhile, Young Jains Nairobi, celebrating two decades of service, learning and experiencing spirituality in Kenya, have organised Walk-a-thon 2, a charity walk followed by a Furaha Fiesta on Sunday July 3 at the Oshwal Centre in Westlands, Nairobi. After the walk which commences at 6.30am, participants will be treated to the fiesta dubbed a “Carnival with a Kenyan Twist”. It will include performances by the popular Action in Force and Sarakasi Dancers.
Participation in the walk and the Furaha Fiesta is free. The Young Jains are also offering free breakfast. Readers who are interested and would like to participate can seek further information by logging [email protected]. You can also call 0722 729 999.
