While performing any ritual, it is mandatory to invoke / invite devta to be part of that yagna. There is a specified process which needs to be followed which is applicable to all kinds of havan, puja or ritual. following are the steps to invite devta and install them for any satvik ritual.
- Āvāhanam (invoking deities)
आगच्छभगवन्देवस्थानेचात्रस्थिरोभव।
यावत्पूजांकरिष्यामितावत्त्वंसन्निधोभव।।
āgaccha bhagavandeva sthāne cātra sthiro bhava /
yāvatpūjām kariṣyāmi tāvattvam sannidho bhava //
“Oh Lord! Please come and stay here as long as I worship you, may you remain here close by”.
- Āsanam (offering seat)
रम्यंसुशोभनंदिव्यंसर्वसौख्यकरंशुभम्।
आसनंचमयादत्तंगृहाणपरमेश्वर।।
ramyam susobhanam divyam sarvasaukhyakaram śubham /
āsanam ca mayā dattam gṛhāṇa parameśvara //
“Oh Lord! Kindly accept the seat given by me, which is beautiful, splendid, bright, giving all sorts of happiness and pure”.
- Pādyam (offering water for washing feet)
उष्णोदकंनिर्मलंचसर्वसौगन्ध्यसंयुतम्।
पादप्रक्षालनार्थायदत्तंतेप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
uṣṇodakamnirmalam ca sarvasaugandhyasaṁyutam /
pādaprakṣālanārthāya dattam te pratigṛhyatām //
“I offer to thee (Oh Lord!), the water which is (slightly) hot, clean and fragrant. Kindly accept it for washing thy feet”.
- Arghyam (offering water for washing hands)
अर्घ्यंगृहाणदेवेशगन्धपुष्पाक्षतैःसह।
करूणाकरमेदेवगृहाणार्घ्यंनमोऽस्तुते।।
arghyam gṛhāṇa deveśa gandha puṣpākṣataiḥ saha /
karuṇākara me deva gṛhāṇaārghyamnamo’stute//
“Oh Lord of the Lords! Oh bestower of kindness! I bow to thee. Kindly accept this arghya (water for drinking) which is mixed with perfume (i.e. sandal), flower and akshata (unbroken rice grains mixed with kumkum)”.
- Ācamanam (offering of drinking water)
सर्वतीर्थसमायुक्तंसुगन्धिंनिर्मलंजलम्।
आचम्यतांमयादत्तंगृहित्वापरमेश्वर।।
sarvatīrthasamāyuktam sugandhim nirmalam jalam /
ācamyatām mayā dattam gṛhitvā parameśvara //
- Snānam (offering bathing water)
गङ्गा-सरस्वती-रेवा-पयोष्णी-नर्मदा-जलै।।
-स्नापितोऽसिमयादेवतथाशान्तिंकुरुष्वमे II
gaṅgā-sarasvaī-revā-payoṣāṇī-narmadā-jalaiḥ /
snāpito’si mayā deva tathā śāntim kuruṣva me //
- Pañcāmṛtasnānam(offering milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar for bath)
पयो-दधि-घृतञ्चैवमधुचशर्करान्वितम्।
पञ्चामृतंमयानीतंस्नानार्थंप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
Payo-dadhi-ghṛtañcaivamadhu ca śarkarānvitam /
pañcāmṛtam mayānītam snānārtham pratigṛhyatām //
- Vastram (offering clothes)
सर्वभूषाधिकेसौम्येलोकलज्जानिवारणे।
मयोपपादितेतुभ्यंवासांसिप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
sarvabhūṣādhike saumye lokalajjānivāraṇe /
mayopapādite tubhyam vāsāṁsi pratigṛhyatām //
- Upavītam (offering sacrificial thread)
नवभिस्तन्तुभिर्युक्तंत्रिगुणंदेवतामयम्।
उपवीतंमयादत्तंगृहाणपरमेश्वर।।
navabhistantubhiryuktam triguṇam devatāmayam /
upavītam mayā dattam gṛhāṇa parameśvara //
- Chandanam (offering sandalwood)
श्रीखण्डंचन्दनंदिव्यंगन्धाढ्यंसुमनोहरम्।
विलेपनंसुरश्रेष्ठचन्दनंप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
śrīkhaṇḍam candanam divyam gandhāḍhyam sumanoharam /
vilepanam suraśreṣṭha chandanam pratihyatām //
- Akṣatam (offering rice grains mixed with kumkum)
अक्षताश्चसुरश्रेष्ठकुंकुमाक्तासुशोभिताः।
मयानिवेदिताभक्त्यागृहाणपरमेश्वर।।
akṣatāśca suraśreṣṭha kuṅkumāktā suśobhitāḥ /
mayā niveditā bhaktyā gṛhāṇa parameśvara //
- Puṣhpam (offering flowers)
माल्यादिनिसुगन्धीनिमालत्यादीनिवैप्रभु।
मयानीतानिपुष्पाणिगृहाणपरमेश्वर।।
mālyādīni sugandhīni mālatyādīni vai prabhu /
mayānītāni puṣpāṇi gṛhāṇa parameśvara //
- Dhūpaḥ (lighting incense)
वनस्पतिरसोद्भूतोगन्धाढ्योगन्धमुत्तमम्।
आघ्रेयस्सर्वदेवानांधूपोऽयंप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
Vanaspatirasodbhūto gandhāḍhyo gandhmuttamam /
āghreyassarvadevānām dhūpo’yam pratigṛhyatām //
- Dīpam (lighting lamp)
आज्यवर्तिसमायुक्तंवह्निनायोजितंमया।
दीपंगृहाणदेवेशत्रैलोक्यतिमिरापहम्।।
ājyavartisamāyuktam vahnināyojitam mayā /
dīpam gṛhāṇa deveśa trailokyatimirāpaham //
- Naivedyam (offering eatables)
शर्कराघृतसंयुक्तंमधुरंस्वादुचोत्तमम्।
उपहारसमायुक्तंनैवेद्यंप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
śarkrāghṛtasaṁyuktam madhuram svāducottamam /
upahārasamāyuktam naivedyam pratigṛhyatām //
- Pūgīphalam-tāmbulam (offering roll of betel leaf)
पूगीफलंमहद्दिव्यंनागवल्लीदलैर्युतम्।
एलालवङ्गसंयुक्तंताम्बूलंप्रतिगृह्यताम्।।
Pūgīphalam mahaddivyam nāgavallīdalairyutam /
elālavaṅgasaṁyuktam tāmbūlam pratigṛhyatām //
- Dakṣiṇā (offering monetary gift)
हिरण्यगर्भगर्भस्थंहेमबीजंविभावसौ।
अनन्तपुण्यफलदमतशान्तिंप्रयच्छमे।।
hiraṇyagarbhastham hemabījam vibhāvasau /
anantapuṇyaphaladamata śāntim prayaccha me //
- Puṣpāñjaliḥ (offering handful of flowers with prayers)
नानासुगन्घपुष्पाणियथाकालोद्भवानिच।
पुष्पाञ्जलिंमयादत्तंगृहाणपरमेश्वर।।
nānāsugandhipuṣpāṇi yathākālodbhavāni ca /
puṣpāñjalim mayādattam gṛhāṇa parameśvara //
- Pradakṣiṇā (circumambulating the deities)
यानिकानिचपापानिजन्मान्तरकृतानिच।
तानितानिप्रणश्यन्तिप्रदक्षिणापदेपदे।।
yānikāni ca pāpāni janmāntarakṛtāni ca /
tāni tāni praṇaśyanti pradakṣiṇā pade pade //
- Kṣmāprārthanā (Prayer for forgiveness)
आवाहनंनजानामिनजानामिविसर्जनम्।
पूजांचैवनजानामिक्षमस्वपरमेश्वर।।
āvāhananna jānāmi na jānāmi visarjanam /
pūjāñcaiva najānāmi kṣamasva parameśvara //
अन्यथाशरणंनास्तित्वमेवशरणंमम।
तस्मात्कारुण्यभावेनरक्षमांपरमेश्वर।।
anyathā śaraṇam nāsti tvameva śaraṇam mama /
tasmāt kārunyabhāvena rakṣa mām parmeśvara
