Ma Kumari Bai (15th century AD) was a female saint and a great poet who had composed lot of devotional songs and sung in praise of Lord Krishna. According to legend, she was born in a pious Brahmin family in a village at Gujarat. She got married to a noble person and lived her life in the present-day Bhavnagar. She was the follower of the Krishna Bhakti Movement. They had a son, and he got married to a pious girl Ranibai. The entire family were very religious oriented and concentrated their attention on devotional activities and provided food to the visiting guests at their home. They lived a simple life and concentrated their entire attention on devoting to Lord Krishna.
Kumari Bai’s husband Chandha once gave some wealth and prospered the life of a poor Krishna devotee, and made him to be rich. Lord Krishna gave his darshan along with Mata Rukmani to the entire family. In course of time, one by one, the entire family took Samadhi.
During 15th century, several poems were written by Ma Kumari Bai as a part of her worship.
Her songs on Krishna were very popular among the people, and some of the verses of the song are as follows:
I worship the divine one, who controls everyone with his beautiful hair and who killed the demons like Kamsa and Sisubala, who attracts others by his divine features and beauty, who is being fondly tied by mother Yashoda around the waist, who is the incarnation of Narayana, the lord of Lakshmi Devi!
Who says the almighty doesn’t come to your house? You are not calling him as Gopikas and Gopalas did.
Who says the almighty doesn’t eat? You are not offering the tasty food the way Ma Yashoda did.
Who says the almighty doesn’t dance? You are not making him dance as the Gopikas did!
Who says the almighty doesn’t accept our worship? You are not worshipping him the way as Lord Garuda did!
Who says the almighty doesn’t sleep? You are not making him to fall asleep as the divine serpent bed Lord Adisesha did!
My Humble salutations to Lord Govinda (one who pleases the cows, the land and the entire nature), Hari (one who removes all obstacles to spiritual movement), Gopal (the protector of the cows) and Radhakrishna (the lover of Ma Raadha Raani)
Let us worship the holy mother and be blessed.
