INTRODUCTION
There is a famous temple dedicated for Ma Kalyaneshwari(Goddess of marriage, longevity and fortunes) also popularly known as Ma Kalyaneshwari Durgamba temple is situated at Kalyaneshwari in Bardhaman district of the present day West Bengal. Kalyaneshwari Mandir is as famous as the Sri Ramakrishna-Kali Ma fame, Sri Dakshineswar Kali Temple. The temple is established in the year 1377 by the then king of West Bengal.
There is a popular dam situated nearby this temple which is known as the Maithon Dam. The temple is kept open to the devotees from morning 6 AM till 8 PM. Near to the Kalyaneshwari Mandir, few boarding and lodging homes are also available at affordable rates. As per legend, once Ma Kalyaneshwari Devi itself had announced in the form of “DIVINE VOICE”, that those who want to get married soon/those who are desirous to have a child/those who face challenges in pregnancy/those who are unable to give birth to a child, must have to sincerely worship her at this temple, so that their wishes would be quickly fulfilled by the holy Divine Mother.
As per her sayings, it is believed that still Kalyaneshwari Ma fulfils the desires of all childless mothers. The temple which we see as of now was once repaired and re-established by the King of Kashipur. At this place, once humans were sacrificed by some bandits, but this practice was stopped in course of time.
There are a lot of vendors who can be seen in the outside the temple, who are selling garlands, fancy ornaments and other puja materials. They also sell ghee made delicious sweets which would be usually offered by Kali Ma Devotees to their beloved goddess Kali during the time of performance of Kali Puja. Devi Kali Ma dwells in the temple by wearing a red cloth and she can be seen holding a beautiful baby on her hands. The Temple is surrounded with full of greenery, and the devotees can witness an attractive scenery especially during early morning hours. In this temple only morning Arati is performed.
Devotees believe that Devi Kalyaneshwari Ma is always active and keep her eyes open without blinking even for a second, in order to save her devotees from their troubles and turmoil, and she renders her unlimited blessings on them. The temple is located on the banks of the sacred Barakar River, which adds more cheerfulness to the visitors.
