INTRODUCTION

Ma Vana Durga Parameshwari Amman temple is situated in Kathiramangalam, Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu and it is situated few kilometres faraway from Kumbakonam, and recently I have visited this famous Temple of Devi Durga and I had attained great spiritual enlightenment and delighted after visiting the shrine of the goddess in the temple.

The chief deity of the temple is Vana Durga, who is considered to be a form of Durga, and the Chief Idol of the temple is 6 feet high and puja would be performed in the temple during Raahu Kaalam. Devotees can get the Darshan of the goddess between 8:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Kathiramangalam Vana Durga is one of the Nava Durga temples. This Durgai Amman used to visit the Kashi Temple, during the nights and comes back to the shrine on day time and this practice continuous for several hundreds of years.

As per ancient legend, this precious temple was visited by Rishi Agastiya, Rishi Mrigandu, Rishi Markandeya, and they have praised Ma Devi Durga by singing wonderful songs on her. It is also believed, that before writing the famous “KAMBARAMAYANAM”, Kambar visited this place, worshipped Ma Durga, and also peacefully stayed here for some time. Since this is a separate temple meant for Ma Durga, this is considered to be a special temple also.

People who want to develop strong faith and bondage, with this Durgaiamman, must have to be in this temple, at least for a few hours, by reciting the Durga Namavali and Durgaiamman Stotra. People who want their marriage life to go smoothly must visit this Vana Durga parameswari Temple, especially on Fridays.

Devotees can perform Archanai to Ma Durga using flowers, and we can also perform holy bath to this Durgaiamman using milk. It is also believed that the celestial Apsaras like Ma Urvasi, Ramba, Menaka and Thilothammai used to regularly visit this temple, during every Friday mornings, and they would be visible only to the eyes of the sincere devotees of Ma Durgaiamman.
